How Container Houses Are Manufactured: From Steel Coil to Shipping
Quick answer

Production runs: steel cutting and frame welding, shot blasting and painting, panel cutting and laminating, floor deck, wall and roof assembly, door and window fitting, electrical and plumbing rough-in, interior finishing, then QC, sealing and packing. The QC gates that matter are frame dimensional check, weld and coating inspection, panel joint fit, electrical test and the water test on wet areas.

Manufacturing a container house is assembly, not construction: the same sequence, at a fixed station, with the same crew. That repeatability is why the units are consistent and why a defect, once introduced, repeats across an order.

The sequence

StageWorkQC gate
1Steel cutting, frame weldingDimensions, squareness, weld inspection
2Shot blasting, primer, topcoatDry film thickness, coverage at edges
3Panel cutting and laminatingCore density, panel thickness, facing bond
4Floor deck and underframeLevel, insulation, penetration sealing
5Wall and roof assemblyJoint alignment, gasket compression
6Doors, windows, hardwareOperation, seal line, lock alignment
7Electrical and plumbing rough-inCircuit layout, pressure test, drain fall
8Interior finishingFloor, wall, ceiling, wet area water test
9Final QC, sealing, packingSerial numbers, photos, packing list

The three stages where problems originate

  • Frame: out-of-square frames make doors bind and panels gap; the check is diagonal measurement before assembly.
  • Panel joints: insufficient gasket compression or sealant applied to a dusty surface; the check is a water spray at corners.
  • Fit-out: drains installed without fall, cables undersized for the appliance list; the check is a flow test and a load calculation.

Coating and corrosion

For coastal or industrial sites, specify the corrosion category and the dry film thickness, and ask for the coating report. Edge coverage matters more than the flat surface value: cut edges and welds are where rust starts.

Packing for export

Corner protection, strapped stacks for flat pack, locking bars for folding units, and a packing list per container with module serials and weights. Loose items are boxed, labelled and listed; a missing box is a missing bathroom fitting three weeks later on site.

FAQ

How long does production take per unit?
For a flat pack unit with materials in stock, typically 3-7 working days; folding and expandable units are faster once the frames are in stock, because the fit-out is done before folding.
What coating system is used on the frame?
Usually shot blasting followed by an epoxy primer and a topcoat, with the dry film thickness specified by the buyer, typically 60-120 microns depending on the corrosion category of the site.
Can I watch production?
Photos and video at each gate are normal. A live video call is offered by many factories and is the fastest way to confirm the unit being built is yours.
