Key features
Knocked down for freight
Panels and frames nest into a compact pack, so a 40HQ carries several modules instead of one built unit.
Bolted on site
Four corner bolts per joint; a two-person crew closes a module in a few hours with hand tools.
Galvanised steel frame
Welded frame with corner castings, so units can be craned, stacked and later relocated.
Stackable to three levels
Corner castings and connector plates allow two and three storey blocks with external stairs.
Highest bed count per m² of land
Two storeys on the same footprint double the beds without buying more land.
External stair and walkway
Galvanised stair, handrail and walkway supplied with the block, so no site fabrication.
Overview
When land is short and the bed count is fixed, the answer is almost always to build up rather than out. A two-storey flat pack camp block stacks standard 20ft modules on top of each other, bolts them through the corner castings, and serves both levels from an external steel staircase and walkway. The footprint stays the same as a single row; the capacity doubles.
Layout logic that works
- Ground floor: canteen, ablutions, laundry, store and site office near the entrance
- Upper floor: dormitories, with the quietest rooms away from the stairs
- Walkway on the long side, staircase at one or both ends, guardrail continuous
- Modules joined side by side with partition walls removed where a wider room is needed
A typical block of 12 modules gives 24 rooms over two levels, with shared sanitary modules at the end of the walkway. Because every module is the same 20ft unit, replacing or adding a module later does not disturb the rest of the block.
Structure and safety
The stacking load is carried through the corner castings and corner posts, not through the panels. Connecting plates tie the upper and lower frames, and the staircase is a separate welded steel structure with its own footings. Wind and snow loading are checked against the destination country before the drawing is released; tell us the site location and we will confirm the design load with the drawing.
What is included
Each module leaves the factory with insulated walls and roof, finished floor, aluminium windows, steel door, lighting, sockets and a distribution box wired to the destination standard. Bathroom pods, kitchenettes, bunk beds, A/C and furniture are added per order. The staircase, walkway, guardrail and connecting plates are quoted as a separate access package.
What we need to quote
Send the number of beds, whether sanitary facilities are shared or en-suite, the site location (for wind and snow load), the destination port and the electrical standard. We reply with a module schedule, an access package and a loading plan.

Flat Pack Units vs Two-Storey Camp Blocks: Which to Build
Two storeys halve the land, not the cost. The saving comes from shared services and shorter site works, and it is offset by structure and access requirements.
Loading Plan for Container Houses: 40HQ Packing, Weight and Lashing
A loading plan is a document, not a photo of a forklift. It fixes how many modules go in each container, where the heavy items sit, how the load is lashed and what the VGM will be — before the truck arrives at the port.
Container House Electrical Standards by Country: Voltage, Plug and Breaker
A container house wired to the wrong standard is not a small problem — it is a re-wire on site, a failed inspection, or a fire. The electrical schedule should be fixed with the destination, not after the order.
