What costs should importers include when buying container houses from China?

Need this answered for your project? Send the site location and quantity — you get a written answer and a quotation.
Short answer

Importers should budget beyond the FOB price for ocean freight, marine insurance, import duty and taxes, destination port charges, customs clearance, inland trucking, crane or forklift unloading, and foundation or site preparation. The true landed cost is the FOB unit price plus all of these, and it typically adds a significant percentage that must be calculated before comparing supplier quotes.

Standards & references

  • ISO 668 — Series 1 freight containers: classification, dimensions and ratings (the dimensional basis for 20FT / 40FT modules).
  • ISO 1496-1 — Series 1 freight containers: specification and testing, used as the reference for corner castings and lifting points.
  • ISO 9001 — quality management system; inspection records and test reports are issued per order.
  • IEC 60364 — low-voltage electrical installations, applied to the cabin wiring layout supplied with each unit.
  • EN 1090-1 — execution of steel structures; can be specified when the destination market requires a declared execution class.
